A pink QR code that still scans

Pink on a soft pink card reads as branding rather than utility. The trick is keeping the dot color dark enough for a phone camera to lock on.

How to make pink actually scan

The problem with pink codes is not the color, it is the lightness. A mid-tone pink such as#EC4899 on white gives roughly 3.6:1 contrast — enough for some cameras on a good day, marginal on a glossy table card in evening light. Two adjustments fix it.

Keep the background lighter than the dots

A pale blush card (#FDF2F8) behind a saturated pink code is the combination that survives print. The reverse — pale pink dots on a hot pink card — fails on most scanners regardless of how good the phone camera is. The generator above flags any pair below 3:1 before you download, so you find out on screen rather than after printing 200 stickers.

Round the dots, round the corners

Rounded modules are a purely visual change — the encoded data is identical. They matter here because they are what makes a pink code read as designed rather than as a recolored default. Keep the three finder patterns (the big squares in the corners) distinct from the dot grid; blurring them together is what makes stylized codes fail.

Where pink codes actually get used

Pink works best where the code is decoration-adjacent rather than load-bearing: a wedding save-the-date, a bakery's packaging insert, a nail salon loyalty card, a florist's tag. For anything a customer needs to scan quickly under pressure — a table tent, a counter card, a menu cover — a darker code on white scans more reliably, and nothing about the brand has to change: the pink lives in the card, the border, the type.

Pink QR code questions

Do pink QR codes work with Instagram or WhatsApp filters?

A plain scan app is fine. Filters that recolor the whole camera frame can wash out a light code, which is an argument for a darker pink than the one on your brand card.

Does the color reduce how much data fits?

No. Color and dot shape are applied after encoding and do not change the data, so a pink code holds exactly as much as a black one.

Can I put a logo in the middle of a pink code?

Yes. Adding a logo automatically raises error correction to High, which is what lets a scanner read through the covered modules. Keep the logo under a quarter of the code width.

Why did my pink code fail in testing but work on my laptop?

A laptop screen has no glare and a high pixel density. Test on the actual printed piece, at the actual distance someone will hold their phone, before printing in volume.
